Woman arrested for deadly I-75 crash was stopped for going 71 mph in a 45 on US-41 hours before

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

More information was released in relation to a U.S. Route 41 traffic stop involving Genise Taylor and Collier County deputy Eric Pellegrino, hours before Taylor was involved in a deadly crash.

According to Taylor's traffic citation, Pellegrino pulled Taylor over on March 18 at 2:33 a.m. for speeding along US-41. The deputy noted she was traveling at 71 mph in a 45-mph zone, and the speeding ticket was $278.

During a hearing on Monday, prosecutors noted in open court that Taylor admitted on a jailhouse call that she knew Pellegrino.

They added that Pellegrino didn't let her drive and instead allowed her to be picked up by some friends after the traffic stop, before they reportedly went to Waffle House.

Taylor started driving again sometime after the stop. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper testified that Taylor was driving drunk the wrong way on I-75. Her blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit, according to FHP.

At approximately 4:18 a.m., Taylor crashed into two oncoming vehicles, one of which was driven by 96-year-old Arthur Gilbert, who died.

"This woman will live with this for the rest of her life," said Pamela Gilbert, Arthur's wife. "The law will take care of whatever needs to happen, and I couldn't put my energy into that anger."

Pamela saw her husband, Arthur, for the first time since he dropped her off at the airport on Wednesday morning at 4 a.m.

Remembering her final words. "I said Art, I love you, and you'll be with me forever," Pamela said. "I'm coming back on Wednesday, honey, and you're coming home."

The Collier County Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal investigation into Pellegrino. CCSO said that he is not on administrative leave.
