A convicted felon in Lehigh Acres has a new warrant out for his arrest after skipping a court hearing for a previous weapons possession charge, according to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.
Crime Stoppers says that Yohandy Avila, 36, was initially arrested when he was staying in a home with a registered sex offender and an underage female. When detectives arrived to arrest the sex offender on other charges, Crime Stoppers adds, they noticed Avila acting nervous.
Crime Stoppers says that detectives questioned Avila and searched his bag, revealing a handgun he was not allowed to have, an open bottle of alcohol and 10 rounds of ammunition in a magazine.
Avila spent just under a day in jail before being released on the condition that he shows up to his court hearing, which he has failed to do.
Avila has 29 previous arrests. He has also been to prison twice.
If you have information in this case, you are asked to contact Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477), on the P3 app, or on its website. You can remain anonymous, and if your tip leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $3,000.
