SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) — Sunday is off to a wet start for many, with scattered showers moving in through inland communities in the early morning hours.
WINK Weather Authority Meteorologist Oceana Hayden is expecting these to push closer to the coastline by mid-morning, thanks to an easterly wind taking over.
This rain is due to a cold front stalling out over SWFL, increasing the amount of moisture available for showers and storms.
There is also high pressure along the eastern seaboard, and that, coupled with our cold front, is leading to breezy conditions throughout the day.
Thanks to increased rain coverage and likely more cloud cover, temperatures will be more seasonal, in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Fire danger risk is low thanks to the rain coverage.
Moisture sticks around tomorrow, but we will have a drier morning than what we saw today.
Scattered shower and storm chances are primarily in the afternoon and evening.
Because of that, temperatures will climb back into the upper 80s for many.
Winds of 10-20mph will remain, with gusts even higher at times.
Breezy conditions persist over the first half of the week.
The WINK Weather Authority is expecting things to dry out by Wednesday, where temperatures will increase near 90 degrees heading to the weekend.
Easter Sunday does have the potential for rain, but we will fine-tune that forecast throughout the week.
Stay tuned!
Today is not likely to be a good boat day. Scattered storms will be present along our immediate coastline, and winds are out of the northeast between 15 and 20 knots.
Gusts could be even higher, so a small craft advisory is in place. Gulf wave heights reach 2 to 3 feet, with our bays and inland waters staying choppy.
The Gulf water temperature is warming to 79 degrees.
