Arcadia’s West Elementary School back to class after week of near-daily swatting call disruptions

ARCADIA, Fla. —

Children and teachers returned to the classroom Monday morning after multiple threatening calls last week at West Elementary School.

The Desoto County Sheriff's Office is still working to find out who is behind the swatting calls and said it will continue to safeguard the school.

West Elementary received six swatting calls, prompting five evacuations in just one week. The threats included bomb threats, school shooters and a hostage crisis.

Although they were all found to be a hoax, West Elementary School Principal Nicole Black is making the school's safety a top priority.

In a statement, Black said, "This week, the school counselor and the school social worker are visiting classrooms to check on students and staff as needed."

The swatting calls are being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division.
