Baby screech owl reunited with family after falling from nest

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) — The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife returned a baby Eastern screech owl to its family after it fell from its nest.

The owl chick, admitted as patient 26-745, was rescued and examined by CROW staff. After confirming the bird was uninjured and healthy, the team transported it back to its original location for renesting.

The tree where the owls had built their nest was dangerously unstable. Instead of attaching a nest box to the unsafe tree, CROW staff selected a nearby sturdy, living tree that could safely support a ladder and provide a secure new nesting location.

Adult owls can recognize their chick and will continue to care for it, even after the move to a new location. CROW noted that renestings are becoming more frequent as spring brings baby season into full swing.
