Collier County drivers frustrated as gas prices surge past $4 a gallon

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)—At $4.29 a gallon for regular gas, many drivers say filling up the tank is starting to feel a lot like emptying the wallet.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says drivers aren't just paying for the oil itself. The price also includes refining, taxes, and distribution and marketing.

"No, I had no idea. It's the first time I've ever heard from it," said driver Jackson Calamela.

Higher prices mean these costs add up fast. One driver paid more than $90 for regular gas, and diesel prices are even higher.

"I have to, like, drive to school and work. So, I mean, I have to get gas regardless of the price," a driver said. "If it's more, it's more. There is nothing I can do about it."

The frustration isn't just the price, it's also knowing the cost of running errands and getting to and from work will continue to break the bank for the foreseeable future.
