ECS hires new boys basketball coach following arrest of former coach RJ Jones

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Evangelical Christian School announced on Monday that it has hired a new coach for its boys basketball team.

The school announced the hiring of David Westberry as the new Director of Boys Basketball.

The announcement comes five days after former boys basketball coach RJ Jones was arrested on charges of soliciting a romantic relationship with a student.

The school confirmed to Gulf Coast News that Jones was no longer employed there following his arrest. Jones had been on administrative leave since the beginning of March.

Westberry has served as a teacher at ECS and the Middle School Athletic Director for the past seven years.

“We are excited to have Coach Westberry leading our boys basketball program,” said Athletic Director Chris Harris. “We are confident he will lead our athletes in a Godly way, both on and off the court. We look forward to the future of ECS basketball under his leadership.”
