FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Gas prices in Lee County jumped significantly overnight, with diesel fuel prices reaching a record high across the state amid the U.S. war in Iran.
The average price of gas in the Fort Myers and Cape Coral metro area is $4.19 per gallon, according to AAA. That is above both the state and national averages. One day earlier, the average was $3.97 per gallon. A month ago, it was $2.90 per gallon.
Across Lee County, the average price is $3.97 per gallon.
Nationally, gas prices have soared past $4 on average for a gallon of regular in the US, marking the highest price since 2022.
Diesel prices also increased in the area, setting a record. AAA reports the current diesel average at $5.82 per gallon in the Fort Myers and Cape Coral metro area. The previous day, diesel averaged $5.67 per gallon.
A couple of weeks ago, prices in Collier County were also above Florida’s average. As of now, AAA reports the average price of gas in Collier County at $4.02 per gallon, and $4.22 per gallon in the Naples metro area.
Diesel in the Naples area also reached a record high, at $5.83 per gallon.
Some local gas stations are offering rewards programs to help drivers save money at the pump. 7-Eleven customers can text “SAVE” to 711711 to receive 25 cents off their next three fill-ups. Circle K customers can sign up for rewards to save 25 cents on their next five fill-ups.
