Naples Pier debris site at Bayview Park leaves boaters scrambling for parking

NAPLES, Fla. (WINK) — Boaters at Bayview Park say parking has become scarce after Collier County and the City of Naples agreed to use the park as a dumping site for Naples Pier debris last year.

WINK News reporter Bella Line visited Bayview Park to see the parking situation firsthand.

A large green fence is currently taking up some of the parking spaces. Charter captain Christina Kraus, who operates Artistic Angler Charters, said the limited parking has created challenges for her clients.

"If you're not here by usually around eight, 8:30 in the morning, you are not getting a spot," Kraus said. “They put up signs that [say] trailer parking only, which obviously all of our captains have the trailer, but then all of our customers don't. So it's like, where do we tell them to park after that?"

Signs at the park indicate there are no handicap trailer spaces and no fish cleaning table. Kraus said she has used the park for years, and not having a filet table has been difficult for her business.

"All of the captains have either been using a filet table on their boat, or some are just making messes all over the park, which to me, is crazy," Kraus said.

Kraus said she feels like they had plenty of notice that the changes were going to happen.

A spokesperson with the City of Naples is working to provide information about how long the dump site will be there and whether there are alternative parking options for drivers.
