Gov. DeSantis signs 'Florida Saves Act', enforcing election integrity

THE VILLAGES, Fla. (WINK) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the “Florida Saves Act,” legislation that will reinforce election integrity.

DeSantis signed House Bill 991 into law on Wednesday during a news conference in the Villages, after highlighting his efforts to ensure election transparency throughout the state since becoming governor. 

According to the Florida House of Representatives, HB 991 is described as revising definitions; revising the information the uniform statewide voter registration application is designed to elicit from an applicant to include a certain acknowledgment.

HB 991 will require all voting to be conducted on paper ballots, eliminating the options of mail-in and computerized ballots.

All Floridians must present a secure form of identification/ a valid Florida ID before being allowed to cast their vote.

In addition, DeSantis mentioned harsher voter-related penalties, citing petitions that generate enough financial backing to reach the ballot but fail to reveal the full intention behind the topics/issues presented to petition signers. 

This bill will deny people who do not have American legal citizenship the right to cast a vote. 

All Florida candidates must provide full transparency and abide by the Florida Constitution before announcing their candidacy.
