Immokalee man accused of armed robbery after victim opens door to suspect standing in front of him

IMMOKALEE, Fla. —

An Immokalee man is accused of armed robbery after a victim told Collier County deputies that they came face-to-face with him holding a kitchen knife, according to an arrest report.

The report says that the victim was asleep and woke up to a noise on Monday. It adds that they could hear someone walking around, and when they opened the door, they saw suspect Vester Brown, 23, standing in the doorway with a knife.

The report says that when the victim and Brown saw each other, the victim confronted him in Spanish and Brown replied in English. It adds that Brown ran away from the home through a fence opening and into the woods behind the home. The victim reportedly told deputies that they gave chase before losing sight of Brown.

The victim told deputies that nothing was out of order or stolen. While on scene, the report says, deputies were told by the manager of the property that they were having issues with Brown, a former tenant, and that the suspect looked a lot like him.

When deputies presented the victim with a lineup of suspect photos, they reportedly picked out Brown twice.

Deputies made contact with Brown on Tuesday. He was detained, and deputies say that he admitted to being in the victim's home and grabbing a knife from within it.

When asked why he was in the house, the report says, Brown reportedly could not provide a reason and told deputies that his intention was never to harm anyone.

Brown was transported to the Immokalee Jail Center and is facing charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling while armed.
