LaBelle correctional deputy arrested for domestic violence

LABELLE, Fla. (WINK)—A Hendry County correctional officer was arrested on domestic violence charges after a confrontation at her home escalated into a physical altercation.

According to a social media post from the Hendry Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to 50-year-old Susan Kelly's home on the evening of March 31 after receiving a 911 call from the victim.

Kelly and the victim were involved in a verbal confrontation that turned physical.

When deputies arrived and spoke with the victim, they discovered Kelly was armed with a firearm she had placed in the small of her back. She then armed herself with a screwdriver and attempted to stab the victim, the press release said.

The victim sustained injuries to his hand during the altercation. Deputies obtained custody of the firearm at the scene.

Kelly was taken into custody and charged with battery, aggravated battery and possession or use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She was released on a $22,500 bond.

Correctional Deputy Susan Kelly has been placed on administrative leave. Kelly has been employed with the Hendry Sheriff's Office for 17 years and has served as a Hendry correctional deputy for 8 and a half years.
