FORT MYERS, Fla. — Baseball is back in Southwest Florida, and the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels are kicking off their home opener weekend with more than just time on the field.
With live music, kid-friendly activities, and classic ballpark eats, it’s shaping up to be one of the most affordable family outings of the season.
Opening weekend at Hammond Stadium is packed with entertainment for all ages.
Friday night, fans can stick around after the game for a Prince tribute concert, bringing a fun, high-energy start to the weekend.
Saturday keeps the focus on families with a pregame Easter egg hunt right on the field, giving kids a chance to be part of the action before the first pitch. There will be over 5,000 eggs laid out on the field and a chance for families to take a picture with the Easter bunny.
And throughout the weekend, one of the biggest highlights for younger fans is the chance to run the bases after the game, creating a memory that goes beyond just watching baseball.
It wouldn’t be a night at the ballpark without the food, and the Mighty Mussels deliver all the classics. From hot dogs and burgers to popcorn and sweet treats, families can enjoy a full dinner and dessert without leaving the stadium.
For those celebrating Lent, there will also be fish-fingers available.
Gates open at 6 pm, which gives fans time to explore the stadium, grab concessions, and soak in the atmosphere before the game begins.
Managing partner, John Martin, says what makes the Mighty Mussels stand out is the price, " We like to joke that we don't want families to take out a mortgage to go out and have fun. We keep tickets low so people can come out with their families."
Tickets are typically low-cost compared to major league games, making it an easy option for families looking for entertainment without spending a lot.
For many of the players, and even the manager, this is their first time playing for the Might Mussels, " It's not only a blast for the fans but also for the players," said Martin, " For alot of these guys it's their first time playing on a professional team. Opening day is probably my favorite part of the year."
Between the Easter egg hunt, live music, running the bases, and ballpark food, the home opener weekend offers a full night out that’s both fun and budget-friendly.
For many in Southwest Florida, it’s not just a game, it’s a tradition that brings the community together without breaking the bank.
