Hendry County deputy accused of domestic violence, attempting to stab victim with screwdriver

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. —

A Hendry County Correctional Officer was arrested on Tuesday after being accused of domestic violence.

According to the Hendry County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a domestic violence call at the home of correctional officer Susan Kelly, 50.

Deputies spoke with the victim, who told them that Kelly had become involved in a verbal confrontation with them, which then escalated into a physical altercation.

At the time of the altercation, Kelly was armed with a gun, which she had placed in the small of her back, HCSO said. Kelly was also armed with a screwdriver and attempted to stab the victim, which led to the victim sustaining injuries on their hand.

Kelly was arrested and faces charges of battery (domestic violence), aggravated battery (domestic violence) and possession or use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Kelly was released on bond. She has been with HCSO for 17 years, serving as a correctional deputy for the last 8.5 years.
