Three Lee County schools on lockdown due to active search for armed homicide suspect

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—The Fort Myers Police Department is conducting an active homicide investigation at a Chevron gas station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

An update at 8:55 a.m. on Thursday revealed that police are actively searching for a suspect considered armed and dangerous in the area of MLK and Veronica Shoemaker boulevards.

According to police department, this is an active homicide investigation with one victim.

Police ask for public assistance in locating the individual and to not approach him.

The suspect was last seen traveling northbound in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Highland Avenue.

Three nearby schools are on lockdown due to the active search:

• Success Academy
• Young Parent Education Program
• James Stephens Elementary

Traffic on MLK Boulevard has increased due to the heightened law enforcement presence. Alternative routes are advised.
