Woman accused of shooting at car with juveniles inside following altercation in Charlotte County

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. —

A woman was arrested after deputies said she shot at a vehicle following an altercation that broke out at Lake Betty Park along Conway Boulevard in Port Charlotte.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Charlotte County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of shots being fired at the park.

Investigators discovered three juvenile males were involved in an altercation, which resulted in one of them suffering minor injuries.

According to the sheriff's office, one of the juveniles called his mother, Lakesia Taylor, 43, and told her what happened. Deputies said Taylor drove to the park and saw several juveniles leaving the park in a vehicle while her son was on the ground.

CCSO said Taylor brandished a firearm and shot at the vehicle as it was driving off from the parking lot.

Deputies then detained Taylor and questioned her about the incident. Taylor admitted she fired three rounds at the vehicle trying to stop it from leaving, according to CCSO.

The victim's vehicle was located, and detectives said they found that two rounds hit the vehicle: one in the driver's side door and the other in the rear hatch.

According to CCSO, there were four occupants inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting; none of them were shot.

Taylor was arrested and booked into the Charlotte County Jail on charges of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

CCSO said Taylor is being held without bond at this time.
