The mother of a 14-year-old girl who was riding a scooter when she was hit by a pickup truck at a busy Cape Coral intersection shared an uplifting update on her daughter's recovery.
Stella Piscopo was heading to a friend's house when she was hit at the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Veterans Parkway in March.
She was taken to a hospital in St. Petersburg, suffering injuries that included a brain bleed, a broken leg, and a fractured pelvis.
The crash happened just days before her 14th birthday.
Gulf Coast News previously spoke to her mother, Monica Piscopo, who said she immediately feared the worst after Stella's friend contacted her, saying Stella didn't show up.
This week, Monica shared more on Stella's progression after the crash.
"She really is improving day by day, but she has a very long road to recovery. Months, in fact," Monica said. "One of the first things she said was how sad she felt that everyone had been so worried about her."
Monica also said that Stella is walking again with a walker for support. Stella will be moved to Tampa General on Monday to continue her recovery.
