Homicide confirmed after death investigation in North Port

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WINK)— North Port police arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with a homicide on Brassy Loop.

Detectives arrested Coy Bothwell and charged him with second-degree murder without premeditation. He is currently in custody.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon and prompted an active investigation.

"I'm incredibly proud of the swift action and dedication shown by our Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit," Chief Garrison said. "Because of their hard work and commitment, this individual is behind bars tonight."

The victim and Bothwell knew each other. Police said this is an isolated incident.

The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
