Lee County advises drivers to prepare for upcoming overnight traffic shift on Ortiz Ave

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

The Lee County Department of Transportation has advised travelers to use caution when driving on Ortiz Avenue in Fort Myers.

According to Lee County DOT, drivers should use caution in the coming week as crews shift both directions of traffic between the roundabout at Hanson Street and south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The traffic shift is a part of the Ortiz Avenue Widening Project.

During the overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on April 12, crews will shift northbound traffic onto the new roadway on the east side of the corridor.

Once the northbound traffic has been shifted, southbound traffic will remain on the existing southbound lanes while crews create a temporary crossover.

Flaggers will assist in ensuring proper traffic flow when the lanes are in a separated configuration.
