Lee County residents face detours during phase two of Three Oaks Parkway extension

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Crews began digging up the road at the intersection of Palomino Lane and Daniels Parkway Monday as part of phase two of the Three Oaks Parkway extension project, which aims to create a new road to ease travel on I-75 in Lee County.

"Once it's connected, it will go all the way down into Naples," said Kris Cella, spokesperson for the project.

The project also includes a new signal at Appaloosa and Powers Court, providing an alternative route for those heading to Publix and Daniels Parkway.

Palomino Lane is completely demolished from Daniels Parkway to Jobe Road, creating a detour for some drivers. Stephanie McLean, a neighbor, expressed frustration, saying, "It's a little frustrating. We live down this road, so everybody has to go left or right and get out of here."

Despite the inconvenience, some neighbors are hopeful for positive changes.

"There's no question it's going to be an inconvenience. But the good news is I think that they're going to put a lot more lanes in here, turning lanes and such," said Richard, another neighbor.

Cella explained that closing Palomino Lane reduces construction time by more than four months. She also warned about night closures starting this evening through Thursday as crews install a temporary traffic light on Palomino Lane and Daniels Parkway. The closures will be from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., closing the intersection in all directions from moments at a time.

Neighbors are eager for the construction to be completed. "This whole area has just been construction after construction. So I think we're all anxious to get it done," Richard said.

McLean added, "We'll see what happens in the next few weeks."

Cella reminded the public to be patient, saying, "When it's done, it's going to be fantastic. I have a whole new route to head south, and I think it'll be a great, great, local traffic reliever."

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2028. Drivers should expect longer than normal traffic delays in the area.
