Strong storms move through Collier County as active weather pattern sets up

A more active pattern is in store for us as a boundary stalls across the Gulf Coast this week. Expect scattered storms to favor areas east of I-75 heading into Monday evening.

A strong thunderstorm was moving through central Collier County as of 4:33 p.m., about 9 miles southeast of Ave Maria, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is capable of producing wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and half-inch hail. Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects in areas including Ave Maria and Sunniland.

A few storms could be strong, producing heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning. Lows will fall into the 60s with another round of storms on the way Tuesday.

Tuesday is a Gulf Coast Weather Impact Day as the rain and storms become more widespread, especially during the afternoon.

With higher storm coverage, highs will only reach the upper 70s to low 80s. While it won't be a washout, this will be the highest coverage of the week.

Through the rest of the workweek, most of Southwest Florida is on track to pick up between 1 and 3 inches of rain. This is beneficial rain as the entire region still faces extreme drought.

Drier conditions return near the end of the week, with highs returning to the mid-80s by the weekend.
