The Cape Coral Police Department headquarters and surrounding streets, including SE 5th Avenue and SE 11th Street, were closed Tuesday afternoon.
CCPD said its lobby, records window, and parking lot were closed after a person attempted to turn in an old grenade they found for disposal.
Police temporarily shut down the area out of an abundance of caution, but CCPD has since determined that there was no safety threat.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office bomb squad verified it was an inert grenade, according to CCPD.
