Cape Coral pest control expert shares tips to keep bugs out this summer

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Rainy season is bringing more than afternoon storms to Southwest Florida.

All manner of pests, from mosquitoes to termites, are on the move. Heavy downpours flood out insects, sending them scrambling for dry ground and often inside homes.

For mosquitoes, all that standing water is the perfect breeding ground. That's when pest control companies step in, spraying, treating and clearing out problem areas.

Before it gets to that point, experts say homeowners can take a few preventive measures.

"Just be aware of things that hold water," said Troy Thronhill of Healthy Home Pest Control.

"That's breeding grounds for mosquitoes," Thronhill said. "Cleaning up your vegetation, if you got thick bushes trees, keeping all that cleaned up. As far as other general pests like ants and roaches and, you know, palmetto bugs, just making sure your home is sealed up."

As those daily storms stick around, keep an eye out around your home. Experts say you could even see more critters like snakes popping up too.
