Cape Coral residents will share their thoughts Wednesday on the future of a 175-acre golf course on Palm Tree Boulevard that has been vacant since 2006.
"I was a bridesmaid at a wedding that actually happened in the building that used to be here at the golf course when it was open. So we go way back," Gina Young, a Cape Coral resident, said.
"I was here when the old golf course was here over the country club, and it was absolutely gorgeous," Terry Aiken, another resident, said.
The fairways and greens of the property are now overgrown, and the city, which purchased the land in 2024, is asking residents to share their ideas for redevelopment.
"I like to see a 15-acre dog park so they can be off leash and dogs got to do their thing," Thomas Romano, a Cape Coral resident, said.
"I like nature, so I'd like for it to become more naturalistic," Aiken said.
Neighbors living near the course expressed a desire to keep the area quiet.
"There's too many homes being built. We need some nature to walk in with our dogs," Tara Boccia, a Cape Coral resident, said.
"I am definitely going to the meeting this evening. I will be there early," Young said.
The city meeting will share two proposed park concepts and seek public input. The meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 1015 Cultural Park Boulevard.
