PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (WINK) — The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify a woman found dead in the water near the Peace River.
Detectives don't have much information to work with. Because of the stages of decomposition, investigators believe the woman was between 50 and 80 years old.
"We believe that she's about five feet, five inches tall, with light colored hair," said Public Information Officer for the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Chris Hall.
One detail could stand out to someone who knew her. She had purple nail polish on her toes.
"So somebody would like to get pedicures, or maybe just like the color purple," Hall said.
Detectives say even if someone isn't sure, they still want to hear from them. Identifying the woman is key to understanding what happened.
"We would rather have tips that we chase down that aren't accurate than have no tips at all," Hall said. "At least we can kind of work our way through and find out what we actually have."
Investigators believe someone in the community may recognize her. Even the smallest detail could help them start putting the pieces together.
"The big thing is somebody out there knows who this person is, and we just want to make sure that we can bring some closure to the people that cared about her," Hall said.
Anyone with information about the woman is asked to contact Charlotte County's Major Crimes Unit.
