Deputies use tourniquet on child after shooting at Collier County apartment complex

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Collier County deputies used a tourniquet on a child who was shot in the leg after a fight at the Poinciana complex on Airport-Pulling Road North Monday afternoon.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office said the shooting occurred at 2:58 p.m. after a large group had a fight at the apartment complex.

According to the report, the victim, a child, was shot in the leg and left the scene with four other people in a car. Deputies stopped the vehicle and applied a tourniquet to the victim's leg before the child was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Residents at the apartment complex expressed concern about the incident, with many reluctant to speak on camera because the shooter has not been caught.

Larry Rassizi, a Collier County resident, shared his reaction to the shooting.

"And then a gun gets pulled out. Someone gets shot in the leg, and the suspect runs off. What's your reaction to that happening? Right behind you. Be alert. Really be. You know, look out to make sure you don't see the guy running around. Lock your doors. I guess it's safest thing to do. I mean, that's all I would do," Rassizi said.

The sheriff's office is searching for the shooter.
