GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. (WINK)—A man was shot and killed by a neighbor on 8th Avenue Southeast about two weeks ago, and no charges have been filed.
A report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office says a man called 911, saying he thinks he shot his neighbor in a wooded area of the property. The report does not name either man or list charges for the caller.
Deputies got the 911 call from a man who said he fired a gun and thought he shot his neighbor. Once on scene, deputies handcuffed the caller and asked where the body was.
The man directed deputies to a woodsy area in the back of the property, where they found the man's neighbor dead from a gunshot wound.
This is a neighborhood where many families live, some with young kids. One woman who lives nearby asked to remain anonymous.
Over the phone, the woman said she and her neighbors need answers for their safety.
"It's a little concerning because my kids are like, 'Well, are we safe back here? And are we okay?'" she said.
"We don't know if anyone has been arrested," she said. "We don't know if anyone was even in the wrong."
"We just want answers, being that we're pretty close by," she said.
Neighbors tell WINK News it's normal to hear gunshots in Golden Gate Estates, but they later found out one of those shots had taken someone's life.
WINK has asked the Collier County Sheriff's Office what led up to the shooting and why no charges were filed. CCSO states they can only release what's in the report, as this death investigation is still active.
The report says the man who lost his life was a husband. WINK News is trying to reach out to his family to learn more about him.
