New body camera footage released after gunfire in Fort Myers nightclub parking lot

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Body camera footage obtained by Gulf Coast News shows the aftermath of gunfire outside Viva Le Mirage nightclub in Fort Myers early Monday morning.

Christian Lepe, owner of Black Horn Security, was working security at the club when the shots were fired.

"Right after 2 a.m. is when we heard those shots popping off," Lepe said. "It was definitely more than 5, less than 10."

Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene on Winkler Road, where approximately 2,000 people were present. No injuries were reported, according to LCSO.

Lepe described the situation, saying, "Everything was going great until that happened. You know, people get mad, he just had to go to his car or whatever the heck that was. Word in the wind is he went to his car, grabbed his gun, fired off a few into the air, then ran off, and threw the gun."

Gulf Coast News spoke with Jennifer Richards, a local resident, about her experiences with the nightclub.

"Every weekend, loud music, just aggressive drivers, you know, just chaos," Richards said. "I had a car that slammed into my condo one weekend, aggressive driver leaving the club at night."

During the investigation, deputies used drones and helicopters to survey the scene. Shell casings and a gun were found on the ground.

"I'm glad that that's all it was because it could have been a lot worse," Lepe said.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them or submit an anonymous tip.
