What started as a routine traffic stop on North Collier Boulevard turned into a dangerous situation after a vehicle crashed into the back of a Collier County deputy's cruiser.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office said two deputies were conducting the traffic stop on Wednesday, shortly before midnight, when a vehicle came "barreling" towards them and struck the back of one of their vehicles.
The deputies and the driver who deputies had initially stopped had to move out of the way quickly.
CCSO said the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash and arrested the driver, accused of ramming into the deputy cruiser, for DUI. The sheriff's office also said there were two occupants in the vehicle driven by Jan Renan, 78, of Havertown, PA.
According to CCSO, everyone made it out safely.
