Collier County updates transportation plan to address future traffic

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Collier County is updating its 2050 transportation plan to address future traffic challenges as the population continues to grow.

The updated plan includes a list of major road improvements, such as a significant overhaul of the I-75 and Golden Gate Parkway interchange and a large-scale expansion of State Road 29, which would widen long stretches from two lanes to four.

Clay Bradley, a Collier County resident, described the current situation, saying, "The I-75 interchange is a nightmare right now," he continued, "When they get it finished, it's going to relieve a lot of traffic problems."

Several key intersections are also targeted for upgrades, including US 41 and Vanderbilt Beach Road, along with improvements to Immokalee Road.

Construction is not expected to begin soon, as these projects remain unfunded. Current efforts are focused on planning rather than breaking ground. The update to the transportation plan allows these projects to be prioritized and begin funding for future planning.
