Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is holding a news conference regarding a man accused of killing a Fort Myers gas station clerk with a hammer on April 2.
Rolbert Joachin, 40, reportedly admitted that he went to the Chevron gas station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard specifically to kill the clerk, who was identified as Nilufa Easmin, also known as Yasmin.
According to court notes from Joachin's appearance on Wednesday, Joachin told detectives that he wore the same clothes that Yasmin had seen him in two days before the attack so that she would recognize him.
In surveillance video from the store, Joachin reportedly smashed the windshield of Yasmin's vehicle before approaching her as she walked out of the store, hitting her in the head with a hammer and killing her.
Fort Myers police said Joachin is also a suspect in another case that detectives have been working on for months. The specific case was not revealed.
According to the State Attorney's Office, Joachin is in the country illegally from Haiti. The Department of Homeland Security said that an ICE hold was placed on him and that no matter how the case goes, Joachin will be deported.
President Donald Trump weighed in on the brutal attack in a post on Truth Social Thursday night.
The ICE news conference is being held in Fort Myers and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Friday.
