Semitrailer catches fire after tire blowout along I-75 in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A semitrailer caught fire along Interstate 75 northbound near mile marker 136 in Fort Myers, causing significant traffic delays Friday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi with a trailer attached was traveling northbound on the interstate in the outside lane when it had a tire blowout. The driver then pulled over onto the right paved shoulder and caught fire.

The Fort Myers Fire Department said crews used four extinguishers to put out the fire on the concrete truck with the help of the South Trail Fire Department and Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District.

No one was injured, and the roadway is back open, according to FHP.
