CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — A Cape Coral High School student is speaking out after her friend was hit by a truck while crossing a busy Cape Coral intersection in March.
For N'evaeh, the need for change is personal.
"I want to see a pedestrian bridge, because I feel like that can help both drivers and students," she said.
N'evaeh said her friend Stella Piscopo was hit at the intersection while crossing on her scooter at sunset. Stella is recovering, but N'evaeh wants action taken before another accident turns deadly.

"I didn't know how to think. None of my friends did," N'evaeh said.
"She's recovering fast. She's doing very well. We got very lucky with the situation, and we might not get so lucky the next time," N'evaeh said.
The City of Cape Coral said they are working with Lee County on a solution. So far, they've installed audible crosswalks that alert pedestrians when it's safe to cross.
"That's definitely a good short-term solution to it. It's going to solve issues, but is there a bigger step we can take?" N'evaeh asked.
Lee County said a pedestrian bridge has not been discussed. N'evaeh believes the investment would be worth it.
"I understand that it would take a lot of money and a lot of time, but the positive effects of that can most definitely outweigh whatever money you're worrying about," N'evaeh said.
Cape Coral police said there is no update on the investigation of Piscopo's incident. They said safety on roadways involves pedestrians and drivers doing their part.
