Lee County calls off search after mistaken swimmer report

SANIBEL, Fla. (WINK)— The Lee County Sheriff's Office called off a search for a reported missing swimmer after determining the initial report was mistaken.

Authorities said the original reporting party did not actually see a swimmer leave and fail to return. After interviewing the reporting party, investigators determined there was never a swimmer to begin with.

Separately, Lee County officials also made contact with individuals on paddle boards who were reported to be in distress. Those individuals confirmed they were not in distress.
