SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) — It’s turned into a beautiful Sunday across Southwest Florida, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures now warming through the 80s.
Humidity remains on the lower side, so while it’s warm, it’s still feeling fairly comfortable for this time of year.
As we head deeper into the afternoon, winds are becoming the main weather story.
A steady northeast breeze is picking up, with gusts already increasing and expected to strengthen even more into the evening.
Gusts could reach up to 25 mph, especially closer to the coast and out on the water.
If you have boating plans, you’ll want to use caution. The strongest winds are expected closer to sunset, so heading in earlier rather than later is the safer bet.
Even for those staying on land, expect a noticeably breezy finish to the day.
Despite the wind, conditions stay dry with mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will top out in the mid-80s, right where we should be for mid-April, and there’s no rain to worry about.
Winds will remain elevated into the evening before gradually easing overnight. It will feel pleasant outside in the 70s, with temperatures falling back into the mid-60s overnight.
The new workweek starts off on a similar note. Morning temperatures will be comfortable in the 60s with low humidity sticking around.
By the afternoon, highs climb into the upper 80s with continued dry conditions. Breezy conditions will still be around, but not quite as strong as what we’re seeing today.
High pressure will dominate the forecast throughout the week. It’s currently driving gusty east-northeast winds, but as the pressure gradient relaxes, calmer conditions are expected by midweek.
Temperatures will steadily rise each day, with highs approaching 90 degrees at times. Even with the warming trend, dry conditions remain in place, and no rain is expected for at least the next seven days.
Beach and boating
If you’re heading out on the water, exercise caution. Northeast winds will produce wave heights of 2 to 3 feet, along with a moderate chop in bays and inland waters. Winds may become gustier into the evening hours.
Gulf water temperatures are holding near 78 degrees.
