World-class athletes fly high at Naples plaza to fight homelessness

NAPLES, Fla. (WINK) — Elite pole vaulters competed in the middle of a shopping plaza, soaring over incredible heights for a good cause on Saturday.

The 5th annual Pole Vault in the Plaza at Mercato brought top-tier athletes and big energy to Southwest Florida. Mercato transformed into a high-flying arena as spectators gathered to watch pole vaulters clear more than 17 feet.

This year's event featured elite-only competitors, making every jump among the best of the best. The free event drew families and fans to experience the music, atmosphere and adrenaline up close.

Beyond the excitement, the event benefited St. Matthew's House, helping fight hunger, homelessness and addiction across Southwest Florida. All net profit generated from the event will support the mission of St. Matthew's House.

"All the revenue, the net profit generated here at this poem Plaza, will go to help to support the mission of St. Matthew's house, to support the hundreds of men, women and children right now tonight that are going to receive care and love and services from St. Matthew's house," said Ben Bridges, president and CEO of St. Matthew's House.

Organizers said the event continues to grow each year, raising more money and awareness for St. Matthew's House.
