180-acre brush fire reported in Picayune Strand State Forest, 10% containment

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Florida Forestry and Greater Naples Fire are on scene combatting a 180-acre brush fire at the Picayune Strand State Forest.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, crews are working the active brush fire located on Newman Drive near Beck Boulevard on Monday.

The sheriff’s office aviation unit has been deployed, dropping buckets of water on the brush fire.

According to WatchDuty.org, 10% of the fire has been contained.

Law enforcement says that residents in the area should be on alert. No evacuations are required at this time, but residents should be prepared in the event an evacuation order is given.

According to the Florida Forest Service, current winds are pushing westward, which may lead to smoky conditions along Collier Boulevard south of Interstate 75. Please use caution in the area and stay alert for changing conditions.
