Attorney John Morgan, of Morgan & Morgan, says he won't be running for Florida governor.
Morgan says despite encouragement from supporters, he has no plans to enter the race.
The founder of Morgan & Morgan has already made his mark on Florida politics, helping lead successful efforts to legalize medical marijuana and raise the state's minimum wage through constitutional amendments.
Now, he's turning his attention to something different: creating a viable third party in Florida.
Morgan says he's launching a contest with a $100,000 prize aimed at jumpstarting that effort—though details on how it will work are still emerging. The goal, he says, is to challenge the traditional two-party system and give voters another option.
As for a run for governor, Morgan says his interest was always conditional. He would have only considered entering the race if he strongly opposed the candidates already running—but says that moment hasn't come.
For now, Morgan plans to stay out of the race.
