Footage shows deputy fatally shooting armed suspect on Barker Ave in Charlotte County

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. —

Footage was released Wednesday from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office that shows an armed suspect shot by a deputy on Barker Avenue April 1.

According to the sheriff's office, Keith Dwayne Blevins, 52, died after the agency responded to a report about someone armed at a home along Barker Avenue.

Deputies said they received a 911 call from a woman who said they got into a fight with Blevins, who reportedly grabbed a gun, threatened her and threatened to take his own life.

The woman grabbed the gun after he dropped it, and he went to grab another gun. She left the home and hid in the woods before deputies found her. They also said they found another person hiding in the house and got him out safely.

The sheriff's office said Blevins was still armed and saying he was going to commit suicide. When he came out the front door, he was ordered to drop the weapon, which he did not do.

A deputy fired six shots at Blevins, hitting him five times, which killed him, according to the sheriff's office.
