Man accused of biting Lee County deputies during scuffle at golf store along Metro Pkwy

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Deputies arrested Adam Jager at Sunshine Carts on Metro Parkway Tuesday night after he reportedly became aggressive, threw items, and resisted arrest.

Witnesses said Jager pulled a gun from his waistband, prompting a call to law enforcement.

"He almost pointed to his waist and said something, but not in a violent way. He just mentioned that he might have had something on him. So that's what really made me want to call the police in the first place, because this guy's getting aggressive," one witness said.

Alex Wirsing, a sales manager at Sunshine Carts, said Jager had visited the store last week to inquire about purchasing a golf cart. On Tuesday, however, Jager spent three hours entering and exiting the store before his behavior escalated.

"He threw a key at me. He threw his own keys for his car in the road. It looked like a set of keys. He threw. That's all I saw. He just threw a bunch of stuff in the like. I think it was a set of his own keys," Wirsing said.

Wirsing added that Jager claimed to have cash to buy a golf cart but only produced about $50 in small bills.

"He came in here yesterday talking about how I've got all this cash in my pocket ready to go. And he, at one point, he pulled something out of his pocket, and his cash fell with it. It was maybe 50 bucks, like 3 to 4 different bills. One was a 20 and then smaller bills," Wirsing said.

During the arrest, Jager became aggressive, spitting and biting deputies. Deputies used pepper spray to subdue him, and those injured during the incident were treated and discharged from the hospital.

Jager was transported to Gulf Coast Medical following the arrest. Authorities have not yet released a photo of him.
