Naples farm owners anxious to return home after wildfire threat

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)—Farm owners and horse trainers forced to evacuate are still waiting to find out when they can return home.

Jessica Stark says she didn't sleep after getting an evacuation order Monday.

"I was wondering if the farm was even standing," Stark said.

A deputy arrived at her property and told her it was time to leave. Stark had just minutes to evacuate with her seven horses.

On Tuesday, she was able to check on her farm.

"I turned the corner and she was still standing. We have a home," Stark said.

But there's still no word on when she can fully return. Fire officials say people should check with the county before heading back.

"Residents are encouraged to dial 311 to see if they are able to return," said Jesse Lavender.

Air quality is also a concern for the animals.

"If it's hard for us to breathe, it's hard for them to breathe also," Stark said.

For now, her horses are safe at the Naples Therapeutic Riding Center.

"They came here, rolled around. They're like oh, we like it here," Stark said.

The center says it still has room for four more horses.
