Punta Gorda hosts public hearing to address downtown flooding

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. —

Punta Gorda city leaders are taking a significant step Wednesday to address downtown flooding, a recurring issue that raises concerns about safety, access, and long-term damage.

The city is hosting its first public workshop on a downtown flooding study, which is currently in the modeling and evaluation phase. Engineers are studying how water moves through downtown and identifying areas where it builds up the most.

At the meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to view preliminary flood maps that show which areas are most at risk. City leaders said this is a critical step in the study.

Public input during the workshop could help shape future improvements, including drainage upgrades, system redesigns, or long-term infrastructure changes.

The meeting will be held at the Laishley Community Room from 4 to 6 p.m.
