Questions remain after deadly shooting in Golden Gate Estates; no arrests made

GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. —

Neighbors in Golden Gate Estates say they’re feeling uneasy after a deadly shooting on 8th Avenue Southeast, with the person involved still not under arrest.

According to a Collier County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies were called to a home on 8th Avenue Southeast just after 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27.

Investigators say a man called 911, reporting his neighbor was dead and that he may have shot him.

When deputies arrived, they detained the man at the scene. The report says he then directed them to the victim’s body, which was found on the property.

"The shots were like 'bang, bang, bang.' Like from a long gun. Not a small firearm, it was a pretty loud shot," said a man who lives close by and wished to remain anonymous.

Investigators said the victim, believed to be between 18 and 24 years old, died from a gunshot wound and leaves behind a wife.

"There were several. Several shots. My wife was even scared because one of those bullets could have come this way. It’s common out here in the Estates for people to build a mound in the back and shoot. But if a bullet goes the other way, it’s dangerous," the anonymous man said.

The sheriff’s office said no arrests have been made, and they cannot share additional details because the investigation is still active.
