FGCU hosts ASUN Tennis Tournament on newly renovated courts

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK ) — FGCU hosted the ASUN Tennis Tournament Championships this weekend on newly renovated courts that got a major facelift in late 2025.

All 12 courts were resurfaced and painted bright blue and green, new lights were installed, and even the umpire towers were redone. The upgrades came after safety concerns arose from uneven patches on the old courts.

"In the fall last year, they had uneven patches where there were safety concerns, it was really good to get new courts, and I think it made a difference, especially in our health," said Pablo Paternostro, a junior on the FGCU tennis team.

Paternostro, who came to FGCU straight out of high school, said the school has become like his second home. The renovations made playing on the courts safer and more enjoyable for the team.

Head Coach Josh Molino said the upgrades have been a game-changer for the program. "They look good, they play well, and we're just excited about the future of the program," Molino said.

"I think that the universities have invested a lot on the men and women side. So we are very thankful for our facility here, and we will continue to enhance it and do our best to make Southwest Florida proud," Molino said.

The courts are open to the public when the team isn't practicing, giving anyone in Southwest Florida the chance to play on the same courts as the Eagles.

"We can't do it without Southwest Florida, and we want to be a provider, and really, it's a lifelong sport. So if people are interested, come out, be here, we love it. You can't play when we're practicing, but we'll make sure that it works for you," Molino said.

FGCU's men's team fell in the semifinals, but tournament play continued with the championship match on Friday morning.
