Fort Myers celebrates 100 years of Edison Park

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Starting off along Larchmont Avenue, the streets of the Edison Park neighborhood swell with celebration over no small feat.

This April, the neighborhood turned 100 years old.

"I think that's a blessing," said one neighbor.

"It means history, it means a sense of community, it means that we celebrate, we all continue to have this legacy," said another neighbor.

The legacy includes the Spirit of Fort Myers, otherwise known as Rachel at the Well, who has weathered every storm.

For 100 years, neighborhoods like this have defined Fort Myers, not just because of its history but because of the people who have stuck by it.

People like Kim Gaide, who have called this place home for nearly four decades. She wouldn't change a thing.

"The colors of the houses. The beauty of the plants and the flowers and the trees, how quiet it is, it's very quiet," said Kim. "I am praying that they will be here another 100 years. I won't be, but I'm hoping that it will be here another 100 years."

A century in, the legacy continues to march forward.
