Pelican Bay’s 6th annual week-long food drive collected over 18,000 pounds of food and $14,000 in cash donations to support St. Matthew’s House in feeding the community this summer.
St. Matthew’s House expressed gratitude to the Pelican Bay community, especially food drive organizers Julie Wade and Barb Davin, for their contributions.
“This generous donation will feed over 35,000 people this summer, after filling over 26 large bins in the St. Matthew’s House food warehouse,” St. Matthew’s House said.
The donation comes at a crucial time of year when many seasonal residents head north, making it harder for nonprofits like St. Matthew’s House to receive food donations. Families with children home for the summer face additional challenges as school meal programs are unavailable during this period.
