Motorcyclist accused of driving away from deputies, harming K9 following chase at Miromar Lakes

MIROMAR LAKES, Fla. —

A Lehigh Acres man is accused of driving away from Lee County deputies, causing a vehicle crash and harming a K9 after a chase at Miromar Lakes Thursday evening.

According to an arrest report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies saw a person on a motorcycle driving erratically on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. The report says deputies noticed a bent tag on the motorcycle and tried to perform a traffic stop.

When a deputy tried to make contact with the driver, later identified as Angelo Acree, 20, he drove off, the report says. Deputies say that when he was driving off Acree was doing so at high speeds and erratically.

A second traffic stop was attempted, the report says, however Acree tried to drive away by weaving through traffic on his motorcycle. The report says he crashed into a red Toyota and ran away.

Deputies say they briefly ran after Acree before he ran into a densely wooded area. Deputies say they suspended the search and called a K9 unit to assist.

The report says the K9, Sky, eventually helped to find Acree and restrained him with a bite to the shoulder. The report says Acree tried to force the dog off of him by first placing his hands around the dog's head and covering the dog's eyes with his fingers, then by pushing the dog's head and face into the ground.

Deputies arrested Acree, who is charged with fleeing and eluding, obstruction, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and touching/striking/harming a police K9.
