SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) — Sunday begins warm and muggy, with temperatures starting in the 70s. After sunrise, expect a mix of sun and clouds to kick off the day.
Winds will be light early on, which may allow patchy fog to develop in some areas. By the afternoon, winds will increase out of the west at 5–15 mph. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s for many locations between 3 and 4 PM. Coastal areas will stay a few degrees cooler than inland spots due to an onshore breeze.
Humidity will continue to rise as moisture builds ahead of an approaching cold front. With the added moisture, clouds will become more dominant later in the day, and a few spot showers may develop, especially east of I-75 under the westerly flow.
Monday will start mild and muggy as the cold front moves through the region. Increased moisture will lead to more cloud cover and the chance for isolated showers around midday.
By the evening, coastal areas could see a few additional showers or storms as winds shift to the northeast behind the front. Despite this, widespread rainfall is not expected, and most of Southwest Florida will remain dry. Winds may gust up to 25 mph at times both ahead of and behind the front.
Behind the front, temperatures will return closer to seasonal averages. Overnight lows will drop into the low 60s by midweek. Lower humidity and breezy conditions will make for a much more comfortable and pleasant stretch of weather.
Fire danger will increase starting Tuesday. The cold front will bring in much drier air, resulting in low relative humidity values.
Combined with wind gusts up to 30 mph, conditions will be favorable for rapid spread if any fires develop. Fire conditions will be monitored closely by The WINK Weather Authority throughout the week.
It will be another great day to be out on the water. Winds will be northwesterly at 5–10 knots early, increasing to around 15 knots later in the day. Seas will remain low, with wave heights around 1–2 feet and a moderate chop on bays and inland waters.
The UV index will be high, around 9, so be sure to apply sunscreen frequently. Gulf water temperatures remain comfortable, near 78°.
