Dunbar High student Jonathan Tobler surprised with scholarship

When it comes to leaving a legacy, at 17-years-old, Dunbar High School student, Jonathan Tobler, is more focused than most.

Amid his jam-packed schedule, Jonathan makes time to serve every Sunday at St. John First Missionary Baptist Church.

Most Sundays are no surprise, but one Sunday in March was an entirely different story.

Earlier that week, Jonathan's mom, Tracee, got the call from Morehouse College in Atlanta.

"Hey, we're going to put him up for a full academic scholarship, and I said, really?" said Tracee. "I told my husband, don't play with me."

That moment for Jonathan was unforgettable.

"Again, I'm happy to report Jonathan's receiving 50,000 dollars to attend Morehouse College," said Michael Gumm, the director of admissions.

"At Morehouse, we train on that integrity, and Jonathan has it," said Gumm.

"I felt whole. I felt full," said Jonathan.

For Jonathan, legacy isn't something to leave behind; it's something to live out every day.

"If we don't do it, who will?" said Jonathan.
