LCSO uses Grappler to stop suspect

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office used its Grappler device late Sunday night to stop a vehicle as the man tried to run from deputies in that vehicle.

Deputies said Rosalio Garcia Carrillo tried to stab a family member before he was stopped.

The Grappler device is new to LCSO, having implemented it a few days ago. Deputies said they safely stopped Garcia Carrillo’s vehicle to get him into custody.

Lee County Sheriff's Office rolls out grappler devices to end dangerous pursuits

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)—The Lee County Sheriff's Office is rolling out new Grappler devices and adding Chevy Tahoes to its fleet in an effort to stop suspects faster and make high-speed chases safer.

Fourth precinct deputies went to a domestic disturbance on Sandy Hollow Lane last night, where the victim said Garcia Carrillo showed up drunk and acting aggressively. They said he then pulled a pocket knife and tried to stab a family member.

Deputies also learned that a friend had picked up Garcia Carrillo in a silver Toyota. Deputies found the vehicle about two miles away and tried to make a traffic stop. They said when that didn’t work, they used the Grappler to grab the Toyota and safely stop it.

Rosalio Garcia Carrillo was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is in the United States illegally and is currently being held on an ICE detainer.
